An outbreak of bird flu has just been detected in the Sarthe on 16 December 2022 in a turkey farm located in the town of Meurcé. An acceleration in the number of confirmed cases is currently affecting the Pays de la Loire region, mainly in Vendée and Maine et Loire, as well as the Deux-Sèvres department.
Enhanced control measures have been introduced by the state to contain the epidemic.
Protection of poultry – combined with other biosecurity measures – is the most protective measure to limit the risk of the highly pathogenic avian influenza virus being introduced into farms from wild birds.states the prefecture in a press release.
This duty applies to all farms and farms throughout the department.
The new case detected in Meurcé gives rise to additional measures that apply within a regulated perimeter of 3 and 10 kilometers around the farm:
– Slaughter of livestock and sanitation of livestock;
– Restriction of movements of poultry and products from farms in the areas;
– Reinforced surveillance by veterinary visits and regular sampling in poultry and game farms;
– The limitation of hunting activities.
