It is a protected species and yet… Three men aged 22 to 33 were arrested while hunting hedgehogs in the parks of Tarbes. Information obtained by AFP from the police.
One of them even posted videos with recipes based on the little animal on Facebook. The police were informed, thanks to two reports from Internet users on the Pharos platform, of the existence of this man from the Hautes-Pyrénées who filmed himself making hedgehogs.
A prohibited practice
The three poachers were arrested on Saturday 3 December and Sunday 4 December during a police check. A live hedgehog was also found in their car.
Among them was the author of the reported cooking tutorials. During their detention, all assured that they did not know that this practice was banned in France.
They only received a simple reminder of the law, but the French Office of Biodiversity (OFB) could decide to take legal action against them.
The hedgehog is a protected species whose capture and hunting is prohibited in France. Violating them is an offense punishable by three years in prison and a fine of 150,000 euros.
On October 18, three other individuals had already been in Tarbes when they were hunting hedgehogs with a hunting dog.
