the essential
The shooting in Texas on Tuesday evening left 21 dead, including 19 children. The first names of the children killed begin to be made public. The shooter had announced on Facebook his passage to the act.

It is an absolute tragedy that the families of the children killed in the Uvalde shooting in Texas, in the United States, are living on Tuesday evening. Under these circumstances, every parent identifies with those American families who dropped their children off at school in the morning and will never see them again.

The shooting killed 21 people: 19 children and 2 adults. An 18-year-old Salvador Ramos is behind the shooting. Investigators are still trying to understand the motivations of the shooter, an 18-year-old boy. The governor of Texas announced on Wednesday evening that the shooter had announced his action on Facebook.

While US authorities have not released the names of the children killed, several families have done so to pay tribute to their children:

José Flores, 10 years old

Jose Flores, 10, was a 4th-grader at Robb who loved to play baseball, according to his uncle Christopher Salazar, who confirmed his nephew’s death.

The shooter: an 18-year-old boy

The shooter had purchased weapons legally days after his 18th birthday, according to the washington post. He obtained two AR-type rifles from a local firearms license holder. He also purchased 375 rounds of ammunition. He had forgotten snaps on Instagram last week.

The governor of Texas claims that the young man posted a message on Facebook warning that he was going to shoot his grandmother, then another stating that he had done so. “The third message, probably less than 15 minutes before arriving at school, read: I will open fire in an elementary school“, said Greg Abbott in a press conference. The high school student was shot dead by a border guard.

According to testimonies from former comrades, collected by American media, Ramos had dropped out of high school. The teenager suffered from stuttering and a loud lisp for which he appeared to have been teased.

Neighbors talk about the teenager’s conflicts with his mother. The teenager had moved, according to a neighbor, several months ago to live with his grandmother.
