News hardware Kanye West thinks he’s Elon Musk and decides to buy a social network
After being banned from Twitter and Instagram, rapper Kanye West announced on Monday his intention to acquire the social network Parler. A decision that is reminiscent of that of Elon Musk vis-à-vis Twitter.
Banned from Twitter and Instagram Kanye West offers Talk
Kanye West has reached an agreement to acquire Parleran alternative social network that presents itself as a space where “Freedom of expression comes first”. The announcement comes shortly after the singer’s Instagram and Twitter accounts were suspended. As a reminder, the one who now calls himself Ye had broken the rules of the two social networks by posting several anti-Semitic messages.
Parliament Technologies, Parler’s parent company, has declared Monday that Kim Kardashian’s ex-husband’s acquisition, “ensures that Parler will play a role in creating an ecosystem that cannot be censored, and in which all voices are welcome”. For now, the details of the agreement have not been disclosed, so we do not yet know the amount of the transaction.
Speak: the social network of the banished
As in all acquisitions of this kind, Monday’s news doesn’t immediately make Kanye West the owner of the Parler social network. Although the terms of the transaction are not public, it is known that the rapper and company signed a ” agreement in principle “. This means that they have yet to sign the final agreement, an important step which should be completed before the end of this year.

Thereby, it will take a few months for Parler to change hands. For those who have never heard of this social network, you should know that like Kanye West, it too has been plagued by controversy since its launch in 2018. By presenting himself as “an alternative to freedom of expression” it has been the refuge of many users who have been blocked on major social platforms for violating content policies.
In just 4 years of life, Parler has already been temporarily removed from the Play Store and App Store for failing to take adequate steps to limit the proliferation of violent messages. In its best days, the social network peaked at 2.9 million daily users, although its popularity has dwindled over time to around 144,000 daily active users today. No need to tell you that it is far behind more mainstream social networks like Instagram, TikTok or Twitter.
Kanye West joins Elon Musk and Donald Trump
Kanye West will therefore not be the only millionaire to control a social network. After being banned from major platforms, Donald Trump had announced the launch of his own network: Truth Social. On the other hand, Elon Musk for his part, presented a purchase offer to Twitter in April 2022an operation which he has been trying to get out of in recent months, but which he is now finally ready to close.

These three characters, although they seem very different, have several things in common. They are wealthy, influential and seek to promote their own social networks under the concept of what they see as the ” freedom of expression “. In this sense according to NPRWest said in a statement: “In a world where conservative views are deemed controversial, we must ensure that we have the right to express ourselves freely”.
It remains to be seen what will happen to these social networks in the coming months and what strategy their new owners will adopt to attract users. Should Talk and Twitter sales materialize, Elon Musk and Kanye West, who are apparently friendscould therefore become owners of competing companies.
