A few days ago, a report from The Verge announcing the arrival of a new paid subscription to Twitter had created controversy. Indeed, Elon Musk reportedly said he wanted to make Internet users pay for the certification, that is to say the small blue badge next to your name on the social network.

Originally, the billionaire planned to place this new subscription at 20 dollars per month, but many Internet users had stepped up to the plate saying that it was too expensive. So it didn’t take long for Elon Musk to change his mind about the pricing of his subscription. Moreover, hackers have already gone to great lengths to hack into users’ accounts by taking advantage of these ads.

Elon Musk finally lowers the price of the Twitter subscription

Yesterday, in response to a tweet from the famous author Stephen King, who announced his dissatisfaction with the paid certification, Elon Musk announced that the price of the certification would finally be lowered to “only” 8 dollars per month. In a new series of tweets, the billionaire detailed how this new subscription would work.

This will be a new formula as part of Twitter Blue, the subscription launched at the end of last year in the United States. As a reminder, the latter is offered at 5 dollars, and offers subscribers features such as the possibility of modifying tweets. By paying 8 dollars for the new subscription, Internet users will not only be able to be certified, but will also have access to other functionalities.

In effect, their profiles will appear first in responses and searches, which Musk says will stem fake accounts. Additionally, they will have the opportunity to post long videos and audio messages. Finally, the number of ads will be halved on the platform. For their part, influential people will be entitled to a second tag below their name, like politicians currently. Elon Musk also promises “a source of income to reward content creators”, without giving further details.
