Elon Musk sold nearly $40 billion worth of stock in one year

Elon Musk has once again sold Tesla shares for $3.6 billion. The share price is at a two-year low.

According to a document published on Wednesday by the US market regulator, the SEC, Elon Musk has just sold 22 million shares in Tesla. Amount of the transaction: approximately $3.6 billion.

“Again” we could exclaim, as the head of the manufacturer specializing in electricity has chained these operations for a few months. In November, it had thus passed 4 billion shares. According to the Wall Street Journal, since November 2021, Elon Musk has sold more than $39 billion worth of Tesla shares.

This is of course explained by the takeover of Twitter. After trying to cancel this takeover, Elon Musk finally paid $44 billion at the end of October to buy the social network. The resale of Tesla shares allowed him to finance a good part of the sum.

Still, this release of millions of Tesla shares highlights the drop in the stock price, which is at its lowest since late 2020. As of this writing, the stock is sitting at around $151. It started the year high at $400.

Investors are worried about Musk’s relationship with Twitter, with some saying the businessman is spending too much time and energy on the social network at the expense of the car brand.
