Electric battery factories are multiplying in the United States

DECRYPTION – Automakers are teaming up with manufacturers to secure their supply.

And five! Stellantis has just completed its program of electric battery factories, three of which will be located in Europe (France, Germany, Italy) and two in North America. On Tuesday, Carlos Tavares, the group’s chief executive, confirmed that the fifth and final factory for its device would be created with Samsung SDI in Kokomo, Indiana, in the northeastern United States. It will supply the assembly sites of Jeep, Chrysler, RAM, Dodge, the American brands of the group which will market electric models from 2023.
The site, whose production is due to start in 2025, will have an annual capacity of 23 gigawatt hours (GWh), with the ambition of increasing it to 33 GWh in the following years.

Joined in a joint venture, Stellantis and Samsung SDI plan to invest more than 2.5 billion dollars (2.3 billion euros) and create 1,400 jobs in and around Kokomo. Investment could gradually increase to 3.1 billion…
